The U.S. is the strictest in the world. In most other countries, you can walk into a pharmacy and buy any medicine that you want without a doctor. The pharmacist consults with the customer and will advise what medicine is appropriate for whatever the condition is. You do not see the local people lined up for miles to buy controlled substances. It is interesting to see that Americans are there buying medicines to bring home. Medcines are cheaper overseas. U.S. has more prisons than any other country AND that most of the prisoners are there for drug related types of offenses. Each prisoner costs the taxpayers lots of money.

They are far, far laxer than those of most countries.

There are some countries - such as the Netherlands - that have even laxer ones, but the US, or at least many States in the US, is among the laxest.
