In 1918, we sent troops to France to fight Kaiser (King) Wilhelm of Germany. In 1938, we began asssisting the UK in defending against Hitler. Ever since, we have a military presence all over the world. which probably accounts for 1/2 our accumulated $9 Trillion debt. Our industries are moving to Asia. Our labor force's earning are receding instead of expanding. We have an under-bought over-valued housing market. The Euro, 2 years ago, was worth 88c; now its about $1.40. The problem is that we have become overeater$ and underachievers. Anyway you cut it, we're not really that smart. Agreed?

You have asked a question so why don't you contribute to the answer. Name the economic problems to which you refer. Who , in America, is so smart? Is all America Smart?( not in evidence by the questions being asked) Who in America is responsible? Are you solving the economic problems? Are you contributing to the economic problems? Am I responsible? Put the thinking cap on!!

Three problems with this question.
1. You are attempting to apply a personal characteristic to a whole, which simple does not work.
2. You are also applying a stable, consistent concept (intelligence) to an ever-changing factor (economy). This is also impossible.
3. You are presuming that economics is completely run by reason and intelligence. The fact is that many extrinsic forces come into play, many of which "America" has no control over.
In other words, intelligence has little to do with economy and economy has little to do with intelligence.

Everyone has economic problems. It appears you're confusing the word 'smart' with 'perfect'. And no, America is not perfect, but we have the highest Gross Domestic Product in the world.

we are not that smart (most scientists are foreign-born), but we have better economy than Europe or Japan.
And, by the way, capitalism does have cycles. Like everything in Nature.

Too many crooked politicians. American is a country, so I would say it would not have a brain to think with.
