they are kinda uncomfortable if played sitting down...well if she likes them i wouldnt say no - i like the sg better though (my opinion)
any guitar is good for beginners, as long as the player likes it, and it obviously is of good quality
my recommendation as good flying v's
for a beginner:

No. There are a few reasons. The Flying V is huge, for one. Most likely too big for someone that age.
It also has a tendency to slide when sitting down. This would be fine, but most of the time she will be sitting in front of a computer, or practicing sitting. Playing with a strap is more difficult than it would seem at first.
A quick note on playing with a strap: The Flying V is a heavy guitar, (thus the wide tonal range) and I don't think a 12 year old boy could keep it up for too long. I haven't even seen too many older girls playing heavy guitars.
If she still wants a V, you would be better to take a look at the Jackson Rhoads, or King V series. They would be much lighter.
Before buying anything though, go to a music store. Try a few instruments sitting and standing, and make sure they are comfortable to play.
Whatever you do, don't get a strat shape. Everyone has one. People who can't play don't tend to have anything else, so at least she can look like she knows what she's doing!

Comfort is probably the best thing for beginners. I know the flying v looks cool but it has an awkward feel of being back heavy. Go for comfort and I bet you will get a jump on the learning part instead of worrying about what you look like. Choose a comfortable guitar in the first stages and who knows from there you might even want a Les Paul as your new baby.

No they aren't especially good, infact i would say that Flying V guitars are much more uncomfortable to play with seeing as its harder to play them sitting down, I have a friend who plays a Dean flying V and he has to play standing up. I would recommend, buying a simple stratocaster shaped guitar.

The Gibson Flying V is a guitar designed for stage presence: it is flashy, the guitarist can hook a leg up in it, and it has a wonderful tone.
If your 12 year old daughter wants one, I'd tell her to save up and buy one.
