It took it a while to sink in, but I think I enjoy the community that is Y!A, checking my ideas against others', getting a feel for what is going on out there.

Plus, it's an education in many ways. We're fortunate to have a lot of great info here and a lot of wonderfully creative posters, imo.

Why do you come back?

There are not many people in my life that give a hoot about politics...most of my co workers could care less...most of my family could care less...I feel that politics and whats going on in our country is the MOST important thing second of course to God...YA is my outlet...my way of venting...sharing...laughing about something that I care very much for...when I try to do that with many of the people around me, all I get is glazed over eyes....talk about the play by play of a pro football game...no problem...talk about how our country is heading towards socialism.....zzzzzzzzzz

I enjoy seeing thoughtful answers to questions I spent time putting together. Also, I'm encouraged to see so many that ARE interested in what's going on in the world and what can be done about it. Of course there are plenty of hate filled posts with no thought behind them but that is to be expected when a medium is open to everyone.

CommonSense -- While I agree that many Americans do embody the characteristics you describe, it is irresponsible and inaccurate to pigeon hole ALL Americans that way. Besides, speaking in absolutes is one of the common behaviors of those you have so much disdain for.

I enjoy the discourse and it is a harmless way to pass time. This medium is a precursor to video YA in the next 10 years or so. They are currently running Fiber Optics to the house. The bandwidth of FO is astonishing. Doing so is like opening a billion lane highway to each home. I predict video phones in every home in 20 years.

To answer your question;

Its a great way to pass time while I am on duty awaiting 911 calls, I am a paramedic. I too enjoy the exchange of ideas and information. The wit and humor of others in their questions and answers.

Mainly because it is another way to see just how American people are uneducated and unaware of the real world. Their bumper sticker mentality, their efforts at reducing the complexities of the world to rhetoric, rather than doing any research on their own. It is evident by most YA responses that Americans are coasting. Their education is substandard, their health is among the worst in the world, their sense of entitlement at the expense of even their friends, families and neighbors. It is an education, and a sad one. I also like to see just how dumb conservs and republs are as evidenced by the post from Keokotah.
