I am hearing more about people being offended by hearing "Merry Christmas" as oppose to "Happy Holidays".... they holiday is called Christmas... and it is celebrated by Christians... That is our right, is to celebrate our religous holidays... I think that if someone does not want to call it "Christmas", then they should not celebrate this holiday and go to work on the 25th.

Does someone saying "Merry Christmas" REALLY offend anyone?

Nope, I'm not offended by it.
Anything except Merry Christmas doesn't sound genuine to me. I think people try too hard to be different, or they're angry about being "forced" to celebrate Christmas. Christmas can be whatever you want it to be; but whatever it is, it should be enjoyed - not grumped over :)

Yes, I do.
I'm not Christian and I do not want you to assume I am. It is rude, whether you mean it to be or not.
There are many holidays being celebrated this time of year. Many of them are where your holiday traditions stem from.
Your attitude and information are seriously flawed. I'm sorry. I'm sure you mean well. I try to take it that way when people tell me, "Merry Christmas". But if you really want to spread joy to me, you'll say, "Happy Holidays". If you don't care about my feelings, simply say nothing at all.
EDIT: Pshaaaa: Oh, get educated! The "X" in X-mas stands for Christ. The letter X in the Greek alphabet is and has been used to mean Christ for centuries. It is NOT crossing Jesus out of Christmas. It is merely another way of spelling it.

I agree with Christmas being on the 25th people should and can say Merry Christmas.
However starting December 4th it's Hanakah, and if I were jewish I would want that acknowledged.
also Kwanza, which I know nothing about, but I guess I wouldn't say "Happy Holidays" not to affend anyone but to make the holidays inclusive.

We could all walk around and say Happy Merry Kwanchristmakah but that may look silly on a greeting card.

it isn't any longer offending to a classic individual. there is plenty anger in the worldwide which you ought to get an indignant look over something, at present. considering the fact that i'm Christian, while it is the month of December, I observed Merry Christmas. If human beings do no longer like it, it is their situation. i does no longer be indignant if a Jewish chum pronounced happy Hannukah or an African American chum wanted me a happy Kwanza. i do no longer think of we ought to continuously be afraid to assert what we believe in. i think of happy trip trips is merely watering down the sentiment of Christmas. enable all of us have fun despite they want to have fun of their very own way yet do no longer attempt to make it a "one length suits all" with the aid of fact it would not.

umm, actrually Pagans had YULE first, the Catholics switched that from the 22 to the 25 to make conversion of the peasants easier. just to set the record straight on that one.

now..am i offended? no not really. my family has always celebrated Christmas. to me it is a FAMILY tradition rather than a religious one. i celebrate Yule, the 22nd of December. winter solstice.

i tell everyone Happy holidays as there is MORE than 1 given holiday in the month of Decemeber. Kwanza, Hannukah (pardon my spelling of that , no offense meant) and Yule /Winter solstice.

if i WERE working i would work the 25th and allow a Christian to be with their family. just because i am a decent person.

The reason we say happy holidays is because some people celebrate other holidays like Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas etc. We are culturally diverse country. We say happy holidays for the happiness it brings people!
I don't think people get offended I just think its nice to say something to everyone.

I can picture how it would offend someone...but it still doesn't make sense. Like the whole " under God" problem. The truth is though most Muslims and Jews and other religions that celebrate Christmas probably immigrated here at some point. Since the majority of this country's population is Christian I think they should accept it.
