Harbor freight sells a solar powered SECURITY LIGHT - no wiring or anything. I have one on the backside of my garage and the little bugger is BRIGHT! Best of all no wiring is needed as it is solar powered.

I would call an electrician. If you have an outlet out there, he can easily tap into it and wire up a Flood Light. These are real high wattage and should light up your porch and a bit of the yard too. They also sell plug-in flood lights, if you want to go that route. You can plug it in and hang it up high, but won't look very nice.

I had a friend that bought one of them small hand held landing lights, or spot lights, the kind that you can land air craft with, about 400 candle power, and hooked it up to an old car battery with clamps. Let me tell you, when he put that thing on, it light up half of the neighborhood! No problem with dogs, cats, rat's or anyone else walking into that yard! Burn your eye balls out at a hundred yards!

Lowes and Home Depot also sell solar powered motion lights. Just mount it to the side of the house and angle the solar panel toward the SW and you will be set.
