One use I can think of is as a admiring reference in poetry referring to old buildings. Stoic means, in a person, enduring pain and troubles without complaining and with inner strength. An old building, old structure, or old part of town which is not updated and perhaps merely part of the area might be referred to by this term. For example, "I turned the corner and the sounds of rushing traffic faded as I walked down the narrow street of 200 and 300 year old buildings of stoic antiquity, apparently waiting for my visit to calm me."
