My third graders have an assignment to write about the best gift that someone could give to them..but this gift can't cost anything at all. What would be free that you would most like to have? What is the spirt of giving about.

Everything they suggests costs money. Anyone have ideas so I can steer them in the right direction.

hmmm, hard question....

Chore cards, ex., one free table setting, one free table cleaning, one free trash removal, one free vacuuming.

Well the first Christmas gift was the gift of life. Not just a new baby but everlasting life if we accept Christ into our lives and the atonement. I know this is probably not an acceptable answer for school (the whole seperation of church and state thing) but it is the greatest gift and what Christmas is really all about. I think people forget that. "Greater alove hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." - John 15:13

Bringing them to volunteer at a homless shelter/soup kitchen? Maybe they're a little young for that...
but that would be a great Christmas gift for a young child, they would learn how blessed they are at Christmas to have a warm home and gifts, and also they would learn the importance of giving, and the real meaning of Christmas... it is not about presents at all... we get too caught up in the material things.

Eternal life- I can't think of anything or any gift better than that- and it's free...all ya gotta do is accept the gift from God by accepting Jesus into your heart and confess that He's the only way to heaven.

I just don't see why so few care to take God up on this offer....really, nothing can compare...

Be blessed

The gift of a smile. It is something that costs nothing and everyone has it to give. Talk about how it would make them fell if everyone went around frowning or how they feel when someone smiles at them for no reason.

Your time while not technically free is the greatest gift you can give someone.. Do a chore for someone.. just hang and keep them company while they do chores.. listen while someone talks.. all are great gifts that don't cost money.

The gift of really listening.
The gift of time.
The gift of love.

All free but infinitely valuable.

JESUS!

God gave his Son Jesus to save us from our sin's. We don't have to pay anything, Jesus already paid our way to heaven! (If we ask him into our lives!)
