Just remember these ways to survive...
1. If by chance you are black and reading this, do not under any circumstances agree to go on a camping trip with a group of white kids, they will get lost, they will find it a good idea to walk off, you will die first.(sorry if this seems racist but thats how movies are).
2. When you are using a map, stick to it, it is geographically correct. all short cuts you see on the way to your destination, that are not on the map, are not on it for a reason...the government have already banished a killer there and taken that road of the map so no one will go there...duh.
3. Don't run upstairs, and if by accident you have, don't jump out the window, just hide somewhere till he goes away then go back down the stairs.
4. When hiding, do not whimper. You may think they won't hear you, but they will its a known fact all sound is heard.
5. Don't be blonde.
6. Do not think its a good idea to have sex in the middle of nowhere, sound travels and obviously your grunts and moans will attract anyone messed up in the head.
7. If your Paris Hilton...just stand and scream 'I'm here, I'm blonde, knife me', why you may ask? Well heres the answer: the rest of the world hates you and wants you dead, there is no survival for you.
8. When you get some sort of projectile weapon, and hit the killer in the head with it, DO NOT leave it on the ground beside them, they will only use it against you.
9. If you do get one over on the killer and put them on the ground, lift the most convenient thing to you and DO THEIR HEAD IN, if you don't its only a matter of time before they get up.

This may sound weird but it helped me when l was young. While watching a horror movie (especially a very frightening scene), l always imagine the people behind the camera. That the director is about to shout "cut" and the staff are moving in all directions to get to the next scene.
lt is a way to brainwash myself that everything l see is not real and that is just the product of what the movie people do. All is made-up.
l hope your fright goes away.

There are a lot of good suggestions here. I, too, get freaked by horror films, so I usually avoid them when possible.

Andrew T mentioned leaving the tv on "sleep"...we have music stations on our cable tv and I do that quite a lot. I choose a soft, easy, new age type channel, set the sleep timer, and doze gently off. Drink something soothing like a warmed milk with chocolate syrup, or herbal tea to help you relax. I've also tried reading a magazine or book to get other thoughts floating around in my head, taking my mind off the frights--like changing your brain's channel, so to speak.

Well me I make sure I have a really funny movie to watch after that. Like after I went and watched Saw 4 I went home and watch Harold and Kumar goes to White Castle than even Big Mommas House. If it helps at all next time just close your eyes if you start to get scared and think about another movie for the time being or something nice :)

watch the movie in the day time. that's what i do.. I get overtly paranoid when i watch it at night b/c i can't seem to get up and turn on the light. or you can watch it w/ a friend and make fun of the movie while you watch it... find something cheesy about it.

Hey you do better than my sister while watching a scary movie. Last time when she watched the ring, she kept me up for 1 week straight and made me stay with her when she needs the bathroom.

Watch the movie during the day...take your Laptop and go outside to the park and watch the movie...
then before you go to bed...watch a comedy...the type that blows soft drinks out your nose...you laugh so hard...or one of your favorite love story...something with a good ending...that way the last thing in your mind before you go to sleep...is not horror...but love or comedy.
That should do it.
I love horror movies...but some are so good...I don't dare watch them during the day. I am kind to myself. Be kind to yourself.

I used to always be afraid of horror movies. I can watch them now with no problem. I feel that the only way to get used to them (to overcome your fear) is to just keep watching.

i agree with cuddling with someone. i use to be terrified of horror movies but i grew out of it. if you can think to yourself and realize that none of this stuff is real you can conquer your fear. and for the sleeping thing, i would either leave the tv on with a sleep timer on, leaving music on, or another thing is bringing something in your bed that makes you really relaxed and comfortable. ex. stuffed animals, PETS, stuff like that

simple: don't watch horror movies. this is not one of those fears that you need to overcome, like an astronaut who's afraid of heights or something. just steer clear of scary movies and save yourself the nightmares and nausea.
