My mother died when I was 8 years old, but I do hear my kids repeating to their kids, the things I said to them.
I really had to laugh at one of my very mild mannered daughters.
She was making a 50th anniversary three tiered cake for my husband and I for our anniversary party and the bottom part fell while it was baking. She mixed up another batch and it to fell.
She said she threw it in the sink and said," Son-of-a b- - - - h in front of her kids, to their disbelief.
She called and told me how she cradled her head in her hands and she said, I'm talking just like my dad.
We laugh about this one all the time.
That is my husbands, words when he is out in the garage working on the car. He says those words out of frustration, kicks the tire and curses out Henry Ford for inventing the automobile. luckily, he takes his anger out on inanimate objects and we all stay out of the garage.
That's why we need to teach them by example. . . .they will surely follow.

Great Question.....When I was young, my parents were strict, it was legal then....I never thought they were right. But growing up & maturing I soon found out they were right. Like everyone has said, eventually you find yourself saying or doing things your parents told you. The most rememberable one is...If you can't say anything nice about someone, don't say anything at all. Must of been the statement of that era. I find myself saying treat others the way you would like to be treated. Looking back...how true those words are. Too bad the world can't think that way now. My favorite woud be always look someone in the eyes when you talk to them...the eyes are the windows to their heart n soul. If they can't look you in the eyes, it is a lie. Strange how the wisdom carries over thru the years...Peace n Love to all...Merry Christmas!!!

I heard my Mother's voice and words come out of my mouth many times while I was raising my children. But with my grandchildren I seem to tell them more about her than actually say the things she said.

Definitely NOT ! My mother was not a very nice or wise lady. Her only legacy to me was - if she did / said something, I have done / said the complete opposite, and it has always worked out fine. The only words that come out of my mouth are my own !

I think I hear, and echo, both my mother AND my grandmother in a lot of things that I do and say!

Yes! I hear Mother in the words I say. I even hear her when I cough, or sneeze, or laugh.

Yes, I'm a mom and I've had to look around when I say something to see if my mom is doing the talking. lol
I heard the same thing you did as well as, 'if you're not going to do it right, don't do it at all.' (found out she didn't mean that though, I'd just better do it right to start with-lol)
