When you point at your wrist, people know your talking about time.
But with kids these days using their cell phones to check the time. And not having watches.
Will this hand signal go away in the future?

Great question!

I agree with the others that the hand signal will stay, both because watches will remain as jewelry and because the cell phone has so many uses that it wouldn't make any sense in the context of wanting to know the time.

There are too many things that are being done using cell phones today. One thing is for sure, the hand signal you are talking about will certainly stay as long watch companies manufacture watches. If not for checking the time, people continue to wear watches as ornaments on their hands. And if at all you do have a cll phone why at all should you ask someone for the time. And if by chance you are in a remote place, you can never show someone a phone and elicit the time from them. So i repeat again, the hand signal will remain.

take it from a kid who uses only cellphones to tell time so much that she has to still count by 5 on each number,no.when i am in class and i want to ask a friend what time it is because i cant see the clock or take out my phone or it will be taken away,i would do the "hand signal" and she will know what i am talking about.I think it will still be around for years to come!
