if it's a desktop:
It most likely sounds to me like a power supply issue.
Like Wiseacre said, I would suggest unplugging your CPU, opening up the case, cleaning the inside, with a can of compressed air, and just spot-checking the power connection cords to make sure they haven't come loose.
if it doesn't work, and you don't have any nerdy/geeky friends, take it to the geek Squad at your local best buy, and have them diagnose it for you.
If it's a laptop/notebook:
still sounds like a power issue. First, try plugging your ac adapter into a different outlet, and see if it fixes the problem, as you may just overloaded the outlet somehow.
If not, contact the manufacturer, and see if your battery has been recalled, since many manufacturers recall notebook batteries all the time, and if urs is on the recall list, they'll send you a new one for free, which may resolve your issue.
Another problem could be the ac adapter that charges your battery could be faulty, and might need to be replaced, which would still need you to contact the manufacturer, to obtain a replacement, or locate a third party/after market adapter.
If none of these fix the issue, I would again recommend taking in to your local geek squad or firedog consultant.
good luck.

I had this experienced on my repairs, we had just changed its memory for upgrade and it all runs well again but you had to reformat again your unit to make sure you had a good start up.
For just an aid, pull the memory chip, holding the sides only and rub the tip with rubber eraser. Before you try this isolete this first.
Booth your computer without the memory, if you hear a 3 beeps then good. Its a sign no memory chip is installed. Its a test of continuity also if your computer works right on path.
Insert again your memory, if it continue then congratulation.
You had made your day.

This is what happened when one of my fans wasn't working properly. Make sure all your fans are functional and turning. Although usually it will tell you that one of the fans isn't working and the PC is going to shut down.
I wouldn't bet on a virus.

Ok, this IS your answer.
Your Motherboard is bad, it will start to POST, and will fail the tests. If it powers off your computer after approximately 30 seconds, it is testing your CPU/ Motherboard and one is failing, if you see ANYTHING on your screen first your CPU is good, but your MB is shot.

go away the ingredient panel off and face a fan in the direction of the motherboard. you are able to need a sparkling CPU fan as nicely, because of the fact it somewhat is curiously not cooling down the CPU. might additionally desire to confirm the thermal paste between the CPU and heatsink. If there is not sufficient thermal grease, the warmth won't circulate from the cpu to the heatsink.

Hi. Tap the F8 key during boot. Select the 'Safe Mode'. Run your anti-malware software. My personal favorite is WindowsCare. http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html Try this first.
