You said it yourself, he's taking a royal dump. It doesn't necessarily mean he is dying, just that he overate. Nice of him to do this after you just changed the water!
Did you remember to dechlorinate the water?

Try and take your finger and pull on it gently. If it comes off, congratulations, you have poop on your hands....literally.
Otherwise, it would be wise to call a tropical fish store and ask.

We have two ponds and anytime the fish had long "poop" it was when they were close to death. I'm not trying to bring you down ...just being honest.

most likely poop, but if it isn't coming from his vent, and on the end it has a "V" then that is an anchor worm....
but I still think that it is most likely a major poop
