I was watching Star Jones today on Court TV & she was commenting on the recent Nebraska shooting tragedy. She was disccusing this tragedy with a Psychologist . Star and the Psychologist indicated that apparently the shooter who commited this horrible act did so in order to become " famous ".---Star when on to state that some girls seek attention & notoriety in another way today and they " get drunk & flash their panties to become famous "--I don't think she was trying to be funny or talking about an isolated incident. She seemed to be talking about some kind of trend.--Maybe I sound old-fashioned; but is there really some sort of a new trend for girls to get drunk & flash their panties ? ----I realize that this question is probably going to generate some off-the -wall answers---but I guess I find this alleged trend a little hard to believe ? I am not making this up----I wonder if anyone else saw Star Jones on Court TV today - THANKS

Cleo... If you want me to be honest....I found your comment insulting especially since I underwent surgery awhile ago which has left me resticted to a wheelchair & unable go out on the street at all.

I never said that all women did this; I just asked ( if as Star said ) this was some sort of trend ?

I did see it, and I heard Star's comment. She was totally referring to Britney in a sarcastic and offhanded way. There is no such trend, unless you want to count that stupid Girls Gone Wild stuff. It's not a trend for normal, decent women.

I believe that what Star actually meant was that young people enamored of the Red Carpet (notoriety as opposed to fame) must constantly up the ante in order to get their 15 minutes of media attention.

I don't think I would flash my underwear to get attention or be like those women on those "Girls Gone Wild" videos to grab attention. It's pretty sad that grabbing attention like that at any age is downright degrading and tacky.

If Star Jones made that comment she was using that as an analogy, but due to the seriousness of the Nebraska tragedy it was way off context. Star should have demonstrated a different example to the audience.

I don't know if it is so much of a trend but yes it occurs more and more. Young girls look at movie starts as their inspirations and idols. When you have movie stars flashing themselves (with and without) underwear it gives the girls the impression that this is okay to do. I do see a lot of panties and underwear showing while out and about. Either pants are hip huggers and they let their thongs show, or boys that think it is cool to wear the waist of their pants around their knees while their boxers hang out. Or females that have not been taught how to properly sit, cross legs, get in and out of a car.

EDITED TO SAY: Cleo, that was FUNNY!!!! :-D)))

There's definitely a few people who are saying that the 'fame' aspect of media attention is a major driving force for these young men who shoot down their school mates, shopping centre patrons and random strangers.

I suspect mental illness is another spoke in that wheel, but I guess others will have to investigate the phenomenon.

As far as girls flashing their panties, the *get famous* stuff seems to be important and this might be the way some girls see a chance to be famous for a few minutes.

I think another answerer is right when she says that it is an action which will often be regretted later, and no doubt some of it (e.g. the 'Girls Gone Wild' stuff) is alcohol fuelled.

But if there's an audience, no doubt it will continue, as the cult of celebrity seems to persuade people that getting seen doing anything, regardless of its value, is better than not being seen.

Cheers :-)

This isn't just a phenomenon for girls. before going to the mall. It's a very scary concept. Part of the problem is that good people get far less press than the bad ones. They might figure that the only way to get public attention is by doing something wrong.

As for the trend for girls, it's the same story. You don't see intelligent, self-respectful actresses on the cover of Us Weekly. You see Paris Hilton getting out of jail, Nicole Richie's mug shot, and Lindsay Lohan vomiting again.

Yes, some women will do anything to get attention. I've known a few who are like that. They typically weren't paid much attention to while they were growing up or their parents showed a great deal of favoritism towards another sibling. As a result, any attention, no matter how bad it is, is better for them than being ignored. They don't make up the majority of women and people shouldn't jump to conclusions that all women are this way because they're not.

I refuse to watch "Star", but, there is a big trend for girls to act "slutty." Tyra had a girl on her show (I only saw the commercial) that said 90% of the girls at her schoolwere bi. Where can that possibly be true? Like Tila Tequila?! What the heck is that about? I don't care if or who or what, but can you not be decent about it? When you meet someone's parents, at least be respectful.

We should be so lucky that they are wearing panties. There does seem to be a trend with celebrities flashing their panties and worse. Britney Spears in particular has been a repeat offender. I have managed to go to work everyday without once exposing myself. I will give you one mistake, after that you are doing it on purpose.

No! Random girls in a bar aren't ever going to get famous by being drunk and acting like a tease... the most attention they will get is maybe getting slipped some roofies...

i don't get drunk and act like a wh--- to hopefully get famous...

there's something wrong with all the women that were or are on the view... they all really bad perceptions of reality...

People don't know what tact means. Yes, girls do this I guess. Just look at the Girls Gone Wild franchise. All this and nothing but regret after the incident.
