Okay, so my friend lives in a trailer and he has been having a bad mouse problem. He said the traps aren't working and I'd like the most humane ways to get rid of and prevent the problems. Any ideas on mouse removal?
THANKS to all who respond!

Yes, I am kind of a hippie tree hugger. lol.
Thanks to the responses so far, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the ultrasonic pest repellers? Do they work?

Your friend might not consider this humane- but the best thing I can think of is to get a cat.

I seem to remember hearing that mice don't like certain herbs- including bay leaves. You might try those.

Check the trailer for gaps. When you find one, stuff it with steel wool then seal it with caulk. Mice won't try to get in through that! The most likely place for such gaps would be around the pipes and power lines- especially behind the stove.

Good luck!

I had pretty good luck using those mouse catchers sold in most home supply stores. You put bait inside (I used peanut butter), and open the door. It's designed so that when the little critter enters, the whole thing tips closing the door. Then you take the trap somewhere (like your neighbor's yard!) and open it to let the mousie out. A cat is a good choice, but not all cats will pursue mice.

Ugh, mice...I used to live in a house that would be invaded by the little critters each winter. I feel for your friend.

Mouse traps worked for me (baited with raw bacon) but I understand that sometimes the problem is beyond trapping. Has your friend considered getting a cat? Also, your friend could try mouse poison but I wouldn't recommend it. An exterminator threw a handful of poison discs under my house and I was blessed with having to smell their rotting little corpses...not pleasant. He said that the ones he used caused the bodies to decay quickly...it wasn't quick enough.

Good luck to your friend!

The book of natural remedies suggests to get a bottle of "Oil of Peppermint" at a health food store, and saturate several cotton balls with the oil and place them where the mice have been. Along the walls and in corners. Rodents are allergic to this oil and will stay away from the area.

NO, THE ULTRASONIC UNITS DO NOT WORK. TRY PLACING OPEN BOWLS OF AMMONIA IN THE AREAS THAT THE CRITTERS HANG-OUT. THEY HAVE VERY SENSITIVE SNIFFERS AND THE STRONG AMMONIA FUMES WILL DRIVE THEM OUT AND OVER TO YOUR NEIGHBORS HOUSE. PUT THE BOWLS IN CLOSETS, FLOOR CABINETS, ETC.
DO NOT SEAL THE OPENINGS OUT SIDE YOUR HOME UNTIL THE MICE ARE GONE. THE STEEL WOOL/CAULK WORKS BEST.
