"I Am the Walrus", hands down. :] It makes me happy, I like to belt it out on road trips.

"I Am the Walrus", easily.
"Across The Universe" is one of the very few Beatles songs I actively dislike, the other being "The Long And Winding Road" *retch*. There are a few I don't listen to often, but these two I will actively avoid.
"Walrus" is much braver as a piece of work, and John Lennon added the word "snied" to the English (?) language (?) while writing it.
"Endless rain into a paper cup" is just a clumsy and slightly silly metaphor, and the whole song comes across as dated hippie nonsense. So many other Beatles songs, in contrast, are timeless.

Whoo boy...that's a toughie. You're talking about probably two of the finest songs John Lennon ever wrote here.
Gimme a minute, I'm thinking!!!!!
I'm going to have to go with "Across The Universe". Why? Here's some of Lennon's own thoughts on the matter: "I think 'Across The Universe' could be the best song I've written because even without tune, it stands on it's own, as a poem. Not many of my songs do." Apparently the lyrics came to him as he was dozing off, and pretty much wrote itself, almost like automatic writing. It's a great spiritual and philisophical song. Certainly one of his best.
As for "Walrus", here's John Lennon again: "I wrote one verse during an acid trip one weekend, and another verse during another acid trip the next weekend..." and, unfortunately, although musically it's brilliant (not to mention a brilliant arrangement by good old George Martin) the words do come across as a bunch of acid babble. Like a lot of Jim Morrison's "poetry", about which I've always said, "Anybody could take a s-itload of acid and come up with that stuff...I know; I had binders full of it back in high school!" "I Am The Walrus" is one of the most drug-influenced songs I've ever heard; good song, of course, but due to it's acid haziness I just don't have the same respect for it that I do "Across The Universe".

When I was in my early teens, I probably would have said "I Am The Walrus". Now, though, I'd definitely say "Across The Universe". It's just lovely.

I loved "I Am the Walrus" until Bono covered it in the movie Across the Universe, so my vote is for Across the Universe.

Technically Blackbird is a greater effectual composition and a greater harmonious poem. Your fowl Can Sing is amazingly a ask your self and musically relaxing, yet i assume the poem is a splash pointed away at some thing very own the Beatles have been dealing with abck then. additionally, in case you asked George to play it for you, he'd ought to refuse with the aid of fact, admittedly, he could no longer with the aid of fact the riff is an overdub. Blackbird is timeless.

Fab Q! I prefer "Across The Universe" but the version sung by Fiona Apple. It was used in the film " Pleasantville".
I also quite like the Rufus Wainwright version.
