i know it's hard to draw dots and such on the computer so can anyone at least just explain how you determine where to place dots, and how you determine when something requires a double or triple bond, i haven't gotten too far into learning about lewis dots so it's just the basics i need to figure out.

this is all i know in general:

-carbon is always the central atom
-all halides are single bonded with other atoms & found on outside of central atom
-nitrogen is most likely to form a triple bond with other elements
-oxygen form a double or single bond
-all elements, except hydrogen, need to fill 8 electrons

man...you have no idea how helpful it'd be if anyone could explain any other facts to make a lewis dot diagram.

Its hard to describe the basics, except to force all the electron pairs to be in a noble gas configuration when done. Its hard to type them out in this answer box.

okay if you know how do do orbital notation and all of that (ex: Xe has 8 valence electrons, so you take the s sub level and and the p sub level and put the 2 electrons in the s sub level which is on the right, then you just take however many are left? one on top , one to the left and one on the bottom, if there are anymore left, like Xe, there are 3 more left just fill it in)
