Did you skip a pill or even take it later than usual? I always take mine at night and once I forgot and didn't take it until the next day at about 1pm and started bleeding and didn't stop until after my period was supposed to be which was about a month later. I called the doctor and they said it was ok and after that I haven't had any problems with my period and I haven't been late any more because that was horrible!

Your hormone dose in the pills may be too low. Schedule a checkup or call Planned Parenthood and talk to one of the doctors there. There's a wide range of pill types, they can get your onto one that works properly with your system.

Have you switched brands or gone to a generic? I was switched to the generic of mine and I had all sorts of bleeding issues. If this is the only time that it has happened, I wouldn't worry too much and wait and see what happens. If you have another abnormally long period, see your doctor.

I would check with your GYN, you could have been pregnant (yes, even on the pill it happens) and had an early miscarriage. In any case, prolonged bleeding is not normal and deserves a check up at least.

This could be a sign of endometriosis, which is a build-up of scar tissue in the uterus. You should get it checked out ASAP, because I think it could also be an ectopic pregnancy.

Time to see the OB/GYN and have it checked out just to be safe.
