has to be big enough for a 1 gal. pickle jar inside.. would a 5 gal. bucket work or not??

How big? An empty mayonnaise jar is something or, if you needed something bigger and more durable, go to an Army surplus store and buy a metal shell-box. These come in several sizes, are very light material complete with handles, waterproof and usually cost under 10 bucks.

a 5 gal. bucket would work if you have the lid to it and it is in good condition
