They are stating to you; what they identify with the most. People who, as you say are mix Will be judge in are country by the most dominate part of themselves which is usually the black side (It is dominate gene) that is why most mix people look mostly black. It is rude to ask such a question and unnecessary. One does not have to choose, they are people not colors. I hate when a white person ask; "What are you?" They are rude and demanding and they make it seem as if I were from another world and I must state each race that I am. I'm an African American or Black 100% nothing else matters.

It makes it extremely hard to identify yourself. As much as we would like to say there is no racial division in our school, just look around. Generally kids hang out with people of their own race. And often there is a culture that comes with a certain race. So this makes it extremely difficult to find a place to belong. Especially teenagers. Teenagers are already having a problem identifying themselves.

They might think that if they say they are mixed, they will be alienated by both races. If they look dark skinned, they probably think they fit in better with the other black students, and just identify themself as being black in order to fit in with that crowd.

People tend to identify with the race that makes them feel like they're apart of something. In the current state of the world it's cool to be ghetto, urban, black or whatever you'd like to call it. Being that said person is half black, she identifies with that.

The blacks hate the mixed kids because of their whiteness while the whites hate the mixed kids because of their blackness.
Wake up call.... In case you haven't noticed, prejudice is still rampant in all societies.

I'm mixed too. I'm Samoan and German but I've always been proud of it. Maybe she likes to be called black more than white, who knows. But I don't think she's ashamed.

Because of mean people talking. So they figure if they are black they won't be talked about.
People are really mean, especially kids but the kids have to hear it from their parents.

This may be an offensive question. However, I don't think they consider "mixed" as a race.

it just depends on the person. like if she feels closer to one culture than she would consider herself that culture. so it all depends on the person. likeim mixed to (asian and black) . i look completely like the asian side except my eyes are kinda big. so ppl naturally assume im asian and when they ask which asian culture i am i say "im mixed. im also half black" thats telling them that i dont just have one culture. see i consider my self mixed so i always would tell ppl the 2 nationalites i am. so i guess the girl in your school likes her black culture above her other side. i treat my two cultures equally. so yeah it depends on the perosn. i hope i helped you understandd:)

one doesn't have to associate themselves with all the races that make them. if one feels that they feel more of a connection with blackness, then they can identify themselves as black and vice versa with identifying as white. it's not anyones business how the identify themselves.
