I agree with many of the points that Peg posted. In a way there is historical bias regarding the Mormon Church. Since they don't have the truth, they have to keep changing the translation in the Book of Mormons to fit the issues of the day. For instance, polygamy, was a vital part of its teaching changed after we became a monogamist nation, and its exclusion of Blacks which now they accept them. What sort of prophets such as Brigham Young and others who would lead its people in a faith build on lies? Then the question is why are they following a belief and not investigating? Mormonism is flawed with half truths and untruths. I was told that the Book of Mormons say that the first Mormons came to north America around 900 a.d., Regardless of what anyone says, the leaders of the church have a strong influence over its people. I feel the Mormons are important as everyone else on this planet, but I don't embrace its teachings. As a Christian, I don't want to see the people following foolishness.
When growing up in Utah, I would hear about the secret room and the secret ceremonies and they still go on. How transparent is that?.

Mormons have such a bad reputations because there are a lot of people out there who have some misunderstandings of what the faith is. Back when the religion first started people felt threated by mormons and their numbers so they made up stuff about them and thoose lies have been passed down from generation to generation and they are now accepted as fact. There is nothing at all controversial about the mormon faith and if someone thinks that there is then they don't understand it fully. I'm not saying the mormonism is the only way to heaven, I beleive there are multiple ways, but mormons, i have to say have pretty much everything right. (Except the coffee thing, i can't live without coffee)

Maybe because of their rather bad record and present doctrines. A record of polygamism, "blood atonement" by murder, black skin seen as a "curse" etc.
But then many religions have parts of their doctrinal history they justify or they'd rather forget.
The fact that they still believe & teach that Jesus was born after sexual relations, Jesus is Lucifer's brother, Mormons will become gods and enjoy celestial sex etc... sets them apart from what is considered Christian by both Protestant faiths and Catholics.
However, they spend millions trying to convince the public that they're more Xtian than Xtians. Ignorance fuels beliefs that Mormons can be considered Xtians.
This is no attack on Mormons. I have many great Mormon friends, and I respect everyone's right to believe in the religion of their choice!
I also believe that the press cannot fully be trusted for giving the correct reputation to anything.

If you look at the history of this nation which guarantees religious freedom in one of the amendments to its Constitution you will find one startling pattern. Every religious group with its roots in North America has been persecuted in North America. That includes Seventh Day Adventists, Christian Scientists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons and even Black Muslims.

I am not a Mormon, but of all religions, They are self sufficient, and do not rely on government funds, or massive charity appeals to build their Churches. Their Chapels do not drip with gold, and treasures whilst their worshippers starve,They do not believe in "Deathbed atonement" "Two hail Mary's, and your sins are forgiven. They don't go a bundle on "suicide bombings in the name of their faith, and they do not blow up towers, or subways, taking innocent people with them, so why not give them a break, and let them worship in their own way. After all, they are not hurting anyone, are they?
