Well I know I don't get offended, although sometimes I shake my head in disbelief and amusement ... BUT, not everyone here is internet forum experienced, has the skin of an old rhino and likes a good stoush.
Some of the folks who venture onto Y!A are young people, some have genuine problems which are upsetting or troubling for them, and some want actual answers and don't know that there is a long running conversation in this section which involves insults, reportings, and all sorts of nonsense.
More experienced people don't give a hang about that sort of thing, but for younger or more sensitive people it can be a problem, so it's best to try to maintain a reasonable level of courtesy.
Cheers :-)

Each of us is entitled to an opinion.
Opinions differ that is life.
On GWS there appear to be some posters with very strong opinions..
Often these opinions are extreme.
In the 6 months of my posting on GWS I have read some very extreme opinions which have been posted to incite discord.
If a nameless wonder posts totally unacceptable personal comments about you as a poster, I can well understand people getting upset.

I don't think you have to 'know' a person to be offended by their words. Most stuff just rolls off as though I'm coated with Teflon but every once in a while, something somebody wrote has the power to sting.

Some people are not here for entertainment. They are here for validation, or for challenge, or mental exercise, or to help people, or many other reasons.
You don't have to care what other people think of you. Some people do care what others think of them, or are threatened or offended by different viewpoints.
Many of us have had painful interactions in our lives with people who are critical or unaccepting, and hearing a similar response on here can stir that pain up again.
If you disagree with a question, there's no reason for someone to be rude or insulting in their reply. In fact, it goes against the community guidelines.

If i have learnt anything from yahoo answers, its how narrow minded people can be. But like everyone else, they are entitled to their opinion unfortunately you get people who think their opinion is the right and only opinion.
Dont worry about them.
They are fools.

True, and most of the real angry answers make me laugh, especially when they're trying to do their best to offend me.
What? Am I supposed to sit in the corner wiping my teary eyes with a tissue because someone appearently got me real good? Not likely. Aussies are made of sterner stuff.

Perhaps it's because they don't want to read/hear dissenting opinions. Maybe they asked the question in the first place to reinforce their own opinion.

Yeah you are right, I have been labeled a pervert tonight over a slight misunderstanding, but what the heck.

It's kind of disheartening to see that someone out there still harbours those archaic opinions. It makes you wonder about everyone else.
