My microwave is rather old and lately the front of the door is hot while in operation. Not good?

If it is REALLY old it probably has a rubber seal...either way I agree with the other poster, new microwaves are cheap and much safer than the old ones and use much less energy too.
I use my new Haier but kept my 1975 Amana as a backup.

no, there so cheap now days just replace it,
