which is material is softer cotton or polyester?

i am shopping for a cozy bathrobe and see some made of cotton or made with imported polyester. which is softer? which will soak up water better?

polyester won't absorb much water and it doesn't breathe...I'd go for the cotton robe

cotton. Egyptian cotton is best.
