My 7 month old son got sick a week ago (Thursday) with typical stomach bug symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea). About two days after he got sick, I got sick, then my husband. For each of us it lasted about 2 days. Then, on Tuesday, we got a call from his daycare that he had diarrhea and a fever. I took him to the doctor and he said he had an ear infection, which could cause the diarrhea. He gave him an antibiotic. Of course, that gave him diarrhea as well. His poor bottom is bright red and he is in pain from the awful diaper rash. He still has a very small appetite and I've had trouble getting him to eat much since he first got sick. Finally today, I thought we were turning a corner and getting better. He took an entire bottle and had a semi-normal diaper.
And then, just as I gave him his last bottle before bed, he gagged and vomited the entire bottle. I bathed him again and he vomited again!
Is he just not over the first bug, or could it be circulating again?

My son's doctor told us that since babies immune systems are not fully developed yet, they can get things twice sometimes, but it is not as bad the second time. My son got a bad stomach bug in August when he was 8 months old. He was hospitalized for a night due to dehydration. Then, about a month ago, he got what I think was the same bug. He got a fever in the afternoon and just as we were getting him ready for bed he threw up twice. But by the next afternoon he seemed to be feeling much better. So hopefully your son will also get over this one quickly.

Also, be careful that babies tummies can be sensitive for 2-3 weeks after a tummy bug, so keep the food fairly bland and be careful to not overfeed for a couple of weeks.

I hope you are both feeling better soon. I know how stressful it can be when your baby is sick.

Nope. When you get a virus once, you can't ever get that same virus again after you are better because your body knows how to fight off that particular virus. But there are lots of viruses out there with the same symptoms, and viruses can change speedily too. So you're son has either a different form of the virus he had before, or it is an entirely different virus he picked up somewhere.

It sounds like you may be re-infecting each other. His diaper rash may be caused from the diarrhea, and you need to put something on it to help it heal, and make him feel better. This is one of the tough times of being a parent.

it's possible that it is a different strain of the virus he could of picked up from daycare. Also tm, wash every thing he uses in hot hot water to kill off the virus. Like his bedding, pacifiers, bottles, all his clothes, blankets, anything that he could of used and got reinfected by.
