I'm really not one to answer this question, but my husband and I were engaged 2 weeks after we met and were married before we knew each other 6 weeks. We've been together now for almost 21 years.

It took me 3 months to know my wife was the one and we were engaged. I were engaged for 2 years however because of the War and all. We have been happily married since.

Long enough to get past the "honeymoon" stage of the relationship. Experience the ups and downs of life with the person you love before getting engaged. I knew for a long time I loved my boyfriend and that we were going to get married. My father had a life altering heart attack and he was there for me. He flew in from NY, he was scheduled to come a few days after dad had his heart attack, he could have canceled but he came to support me.

That's commitment.

I do not think there is a hard coded time. I was with the guy before my husband for 5 years. I was wth my husband for 1 year and then we got engaged. We've been married for 9.5 years now!! I think if you know you just know.

I'd say 2 to 3 years, but it does depend on the people.
If they're in high school, for example, 2 to 3 years is not enough.

A minimum of 2 years, just to let the lust and romantic attachment fade slightly so that the real act of commitment can begin. If you make it another year you might have a chance.
