Ok so I bought a new flapper. A red Korky and it's still running every so often, just enough to be very annoying. There is enough slack in the chain and I have no clue why it's still running...any insight would be great, thanks!

The hose is in the tube.

Giggle the handle when it starts to do that. That should make it stop.

Here's the solution. The float bulb raises and shuts off a valve that is located in the fill tube area. These wear out and sometime need replacement. Test the valve by lifting slightly on the float, If water shuts off. Check the float bulb for water in it. If none, sounds like valve may be bad. It is a rather simple fix if your mechanical. Also check the flap at the base of the toilet tank. This is were water can run continuously if not fully closed. Another simple fix. Both parts can be purchase at your local hardware store. When you flush, A simple chain pulls up the flapper and releases the water to flow out the bowl. After the water leaves the tank, the tank needs to refill and then stop filling when full. This is done by the float which shuts off the valve.

This is one of the most difficult problems a householder will ever experience. I fought with a toilet tank once for two years and finally wound up erecting an old style outhouse at the end of the lot. The problem toilet is out there too. It takes 6-years of plumbing school to become truly knowledgeable about indoor plumbing and now you see why. I hope you have better luck with your flapper than I did.

My toilet in my college house runs too! What I do when mine runs is open up the back part and try and readjust the flapper so that it is sitting perfectly on top of the opening in the back. It might take a few times to get it right, but you can try that! If it keeps doing it, call someone to help!! Good luck :)

Where exactly does the little hose end? In the tube or above the tube? Shoved down in the tube might cause siphoning from the main tank down the tube. The complete kits include a little clip thing to hold the tube ABOVE the hole so whe water does not siphon

Might be too much slack in the chain and every once in a while it gets under the flapper. that was the problem with the one at work.

The flush valve (the mechanism that flapper is attached to) either has a crack in the tube or a rough spot in the seat where the flapper seals.

More than likely the flapper, new or not, may not be seating properly. Therefore water drains out and the toilet periodically needs to refill.
You MAY also have a hairline crack in your tank, and water is actually leaking out.

The most likely cause is the tank flange gasket. This is the one that sits on the very bottom of the cistern. They are usually black in color. If so, try rubbing your finger along it and if it easily stains your finger, then it is too worn and needs replacing. It is allowing water to run down into the bowl slowly, so that the inlet valve senses the lowered water level and opens up, putting new water in the cistern.

This often happens when someone doesn't hit the tap hard or soft enough. Therefore the toilet keeps on running. Sometimes it is stuck. I usually hit the top or the toiler, and it fixes. There are many other ways to fix it.
