A pedestal is a structure meant to display something. Anything that's on the pedestal is meant to be observed and admired (like art pieces in a museum).

Placing someone on a pedestal means that in your mind, you are in deep admiration of that person AND you kinda treat them like they are gods or something.

It means to admire, adore, or even worship someone. It is a picture of an idol, which was place on a pedestal so that it could be seen by the worshippers, or a valuable piece of art that would be elevated so that it could be easily viewed and admired by many viewers.

If you put someone on a pedestal, they will likely fall on top of you!

To put someone on a pedestal means to elevate something's status higher than it really is.For example,a mother who talks about how amazing and clever and athletic her son is when all he does is sit on the couch and eat twinkies all day,and scores straight D's in school. She is putting her son on a pedestal. It wouldn't really be in a dictionary because it is a phrase, not just one word. Not in any dictionary I've heard of any way.
