Cotton ventilates more and is what we call breathable. However, cotton is weak and can tear apart, so polyester was inveted to make strong clothing. Polyester just means many ester groups put together and it starts out as small beads of almost plastic looking material. Polyester was found to form tight bonds and didnt allow for air to pass between bonds. this was the cause of sweat stains on polyester suits of the '70s. Today we use a mix of polyester for durability and cotton for breathability.

Cotton is natural. Your skin can breath better, so your clothes aren't suffocating you (and this isn't a matter of fit.) Cotton is also softer. Plus polyester is cheap. Cotton symbolizes a better quality in your clothes, even though you really don't have to pay that much more for cotton.
