In Dark Cloud 2 how do I "trade" gift boxes to monsters?

I tried equiping it and then using square which throws it at them...but it just bounces off and I loose it all. What am I doing wrong??

I had this problem a few times, too. Just make sure you are targeting the monster you want to throw it to, and stand where it's a pretty straight throw. I noticed if I threw the capsule at an angle it just bounced off. If this still doesn't work, trying hitting the monster once without killing it, then throw the gift capsule. Once the symbol shows over the monster's head (which shows it got the gift capsule), defeat the monster.

EDIT - Also, if the items in the gift capsule are not items the monster would want, it won't take it. If you are trying to get all the monster badges, here is a chart showing what you need to do for each one.
