I wouldn't recommend it. They'll probably eat most of it. You should just stick with bedding. Depending on the size of the package you get it in it would cost between about $3-$7

You would need a lot of paper towel to cover the cage floor with a thick enough layer. I use paper towel in my gerbils houses for nesting material. And I use aspen shaving in the rest of the cage.

Yes you could but it probably wouldnt be the best thing to use... just look and make sure everything in the paper towel is safe for them first and the biggest thing is it will take longer to clean the cage.
