Is the baby being adopted by another couple, or staying with his Mom?

In either case you'll need the consent of a judge. If the kids staying with his Mom you'll also need the signed consent of the guy who's agreeing to become the new legal father.

A court does NOT allow a father to relinquish parental rights with a 'replacement father' - the child has a right to child support from both parents.

EDIT - to southside - the consent of the mother is NOT enough for a father sign away parental rights. The State wishes to be sure that, if the mother becomes financially unable to care for the child, there is a father there, so that the child doesn't become a burden on the taxpayer.

Unless the mother of the child agrees then you are out of luck. If the patermity test proves you are the dad, then you are obligated to pay whatever amount of support the court requires.

The only way you can sign your rights away to avoid child support is if the mother agrees to it. It sure is easy making babies though huh?
