Let the uncouth wear the tshirts and flip flops to court.
I've gone to traffic court twice. I dressed to impress both times and got them dismissed. I didn't even have to say a word. The other people in court, who didn't bother to dress right, irritated the judge. She was nice to those of us who made the effort to respect the court.
You need to dress like those women from "Cold Case" and "The Closer." Remember, "your Honor" is probably going to be some old man or woman with white hair.
Your oufit sounds fine, but under the sweater, wear a white blouse with the collar outside the sweater.

Hiring the attorney could backfire on you. He gets paid win, lose, or draw. Most traffic tickets are not major enough for you to actually benefit from having an attorney there. Unless the cop ticketed you for reckless driving, or 110 in a 70 zone (where the lawyer might be able to get the fine/penalty reduced). Dress nice, show respect for the court system, but as someone else has said, don't "dress to impress", the courts are NOT easily 'impressed' by your clothing.... However, if you came in with torn, dirty blue jeans, and a dirty shirt, they would be impressed (but NOT in a good way....) Good Luck!

It varies somewhat on the jurisdiction, but you should tend to appear neat and clean, but as if you buy clothes at Walmart, and you are on your way to Walmart after court. I dressed in a dress shirt, dress pants, and nice shoes today, and all I think that did for me is make the judge think I could afford the maximum fine. Most plea charges have a range for the fine. I truly feel they are more lenient with this range on the people who appear to be very common folk, and in many jurisdictions that means low paying job. If you dress nicer, they won't think you're rich, but they may think you may be a working professional with a comfortable salary.

If you hired an attorney he should be the one advising you, not Joe Randoms on Yahoo! Answers; Otherwise nice slacks and a polo or a button down will be more than appropriate: Judges see far too many people who only wear ties to court to be impressed by anyone doing so.

Dress casual but nice. Do not go in there in jeans and a t-shirt yet at the same time if you look fancy the judge might think you have a lot of money. I have to go to court and I am planning to wear slacks and a nice shirt.

At least business casual attire. Do not wear jeans or a top that is low cut or a skirt that is high cut. If you have a pair of dress pants and a button-up dress shirt, that should work.

Casual is ok, but dress modestly and conservatively. No t shirts, especially those advertising a product or making a statement. Be polite and businesslike. facts only, don't venture opinions.
Hope for the best, and good luck.

Either long pants or a conservative length skirt - no shorts or mini-skirts - and a top that covers your shoulders and your midriff. No halter tops, no lingerie showing, cover the 'whale tail' and the 'tramp stamp' and you're good.
Easiest way to look at it... dress like you're going for a job interview at a bank - or a law firm :-)

You don't have to be ultra conservative or change too much of whom you are. Just take a shower, present yourself with clean hair, nicely groom (not too much makeup), clean, well fitting clothes (don't show skin if you're a girl, no "low, baggy jeans if you're a man), but it can be a clean, well fitted jean and a sweater, or a skirt (not mini!), and a casual jacket or sweater. Answer with respect.
