Is it possible for Intel or AMD to make a 8 core CPU (octo)? or 16 core (don't know the prefix)? Even 32 core? or 64? My mind is wondering how they fit this tiny architecture on a single CPU by virtualization technology? Just asking :-)

Well I think it is entirely possible in the future, after all cpu's all started life as single core, and now we have quad cores, this is made possible by newer technology. As long as the technology keeps its momentum, and I have heard that AMD is developing tricore cpu's, so a 6 core may be on the cards at some point, and maybe the doubling up process like with Ram may go out the window. May be it may go up in single stages from the near future, my line of thinking, if you can add 1 core to a dual core, why cant you add 1 core to a quad core cpu...........Unfotuanatley us ''Laymen'' don't know how the process works for shrinking the die, after all my AMD 4800+ X2 is a smaller die size than my old 3700+ uni core, and it has more pins to fit a newer socket...........
Tho who is to say in a few years time, the silicon wafer will be obsolete and we'll all be after the latest Intel Brain mark 2.....
A biologically engineered CPU..........
All I can say is WAIT and SEE.........

More cores = more tasks that can be worked on at the same time (faster encoding). You can have a 3 core CPU as well (amd x3 for example) its hard to cram 8 cores onto a single die, and it's what is working at the time.

I would say so cause we already have dual cores and quad core CPU :D

Sometimes I wonder if our processors will become so powerful we'll never need additional hardware for graphics processing or the likes; i.e. video cards and physics cards.

Well, presently you can get a Mac Pro with 8 cores; 4 on each of the two chips.

I think that they can design it, it might not be practical cost wise; and software would have to be recompiled to use it; but its possible.

YES THERE IS ALREADY A CHIP WITH 64 CORES - A STARTUP FROM SILICON VALLEY DID IT AS PROTOTYPE ONLY - NOT EVEN CLOSE TO MASS SHIPMENT THOUGH - INTENDED FOR MEDIA USE - AUDIO/VIDEO IS SO TECHNOLOGY DEMANDING - JUST NEVER ENOUGH FOR THEM
HOW THEY FIT IT ??????
TECHNOLOGY DOES WONDERS MY FRIEND - THERE ARE VERY SMART PPL ON THIS PLANET
