The movie 'The Day After Tomorrow' depicts the Northern Hemisphere being plunged into an ice-age, due to melting arctic ice dumping fresh water into the Atlantic causing the salt water to sink, disrupting the current. Therefore the weather will change, namley the Nothern parts of the world to get colder, even into an ice-age.

In the film the event happened over a very short period of time, whereas in reality it would take longer, but it could happen in as little as 20 years...it is not just the arctic ice but also ice in Siberia and other parts of northern hemisphere which drains into the North Atlantic......would make Northern Britain much like Northern Norway or Moscow.....Thats of course if you believe the Science...and there are many who do not...I do.

The North Atlantic only influences the weather of Eastern North America and western, northern and central Europe. That doesn't represent the entirely northern hemisphere. Global warming means there will be an overall warming, even if parts of Europe get cold. Most of the world's population is in the tropics anyway - that's what we should focus on.

Curtis,

Uhhh...there is only one axis. LOL. And global warming DOES cause Antarctic ice to increase because of warmer temperatures. Snowfall is highest when temperatures are relatively warm, not at 60 below zero.

Kinda funny... Most everyone babbles on about global warming... Your talking about a mini ice age... I like your style. It seems possible. Maybe not for the entire world but for some of it to be sure. As for global warming... If your a real geographer and you studied the deep deep thick thick ice at the Antartic AND the Artic you would see obvious patterns or warmer and colder weather. The earth goes through these phases. We just happen to be going to through a warm phase. Of course I could be wrong. Be that the case then I am just glad I will be dead before things get to hot around here... Maybe we should move the gas guzzling SUV's to the moon... Maybe we can get the fumes to make a second O-zone layer and warm it up a bit. Than some of us can just go live there...

It may very well be possible. I saw a show on the history channel that was trying to answer the same question. One of the main reasons they said it would bring about a mini ice age is that the current escalator will eventually slow down and come to an halt which will cause an increase in temperatures throughout the world.

Antarctic ice getting thicker ??

Is that why that great 200 odd sq mile ice field is about to break away from the Antarctic land mass just south of the Maranbio Survey Base ??

The Antarctic ice is getting thicker while the Arctic is thawing somewhat. Now, please use logic and not hysteria to think of something that could cause this. We know the Earth spins unevenly on its axis over a period of many, many years. Could it be that, right now, one axis is a little closer to the Sun, and the other one is a little farther away? Not some evil American in his gas-guzzling SUV?
