having a phone is a privilege and not a right!! your parents dont have to get you one because you ask!! they have to pay our bill and they may think that your not responsible!! get the good grades and show them that you really want one!!

I'm the oldest with a younger sister, too, and the same kind of stuff happened to me. It pretty much stinks! But here are some thoughts on why it happens: The Cell Phone Thing: A lot of people think that kids don't "need" cell phones until they're older. These are usually people who don't have kids, or whose kids haven't had a cell phone yet. But once their kid actually gets one, and they see how convenient it is, they change their opinion. That's probably what happened in your family's case. Once you had a phone, your parents realized how nice it was to be able to stay in contact with you. So they wanted your sister to have one, too. The iPod/iTouch: The first time your kid asks for an expensive electronic device, it seems like "Whoa, that's a really expensive toy!" So you're hesitant to spend that much. But you gradually realize that that's what these things cost, and you start to get used to it. So when the younger siblings ask for something expensive, you're more willing because it's not such a shock anymore. Also, new and cooler things come out all the time. When you got your Nano, the iTouch probably hadn't come out yet... or it was so new that it was super expensive. Now that its been around for a while, the price has gone down. That's why younger siblings sometimes get better and cooler stuff, and at a younger age. You Getting Blamed for Everything: This happens to every oldest child, and it's been happening since the dawn of time. And parents have been saying the same thing since the caveman days: "You're older, you should know better!" It's a bunch of baloney. Younger siblings ARE to blame sometimes. But parents don't always see that. It's one of those unfairnesses that will probably never change. Your Grades: Parents have high expectations for their oldest child. You're their first, and everything you do - your first step, your first art project, your first A report card - is a first for them, too. And it's all brilliant! So they come to expect big things from you, and want you to succeed. But with their second and later kids, all those "firsts" are nothing new. Been there, done that. So parents tend to mellow out a bit with their younger kids, and don't expect or demand quite as much. So yeah... you may get treated differently than your sister, but it's NOT because your parents like her better. It's probably for the reasons above. Not that this makes things any easier... but maybe it will help a bit to understand why it happens.

I'm a Sophomore and I still don't have one.
I don't complain, instead, I look at the bright side :D
And now, my mom and dad WANT to get me a cellphone but, seriously, what's the point?
"i would like my mom to come pick me up b/c my step-mom is mean but i dont want to make my dad feel bad and call her and it would be easier to text."
- Yeeah, but you can still call :D
"i also have a long walk home so for saftey reasons and stuff"
- Okay, you got a point there. But, can't you just call from where ever you are and say I'll be coming home?

Thats the same deal my parents made with me! and i know, its kinda annoying using someone else's phone to call your parents. I am in seventh grade and I have to get Straight A's all year to get a phone a week or two before 8th grade. I know how it feels. Haha and every b is like an extra month if its 85% or lower, but the 88% and 89%s are like a few days or a week or two. I hate it, but we'll make it through (: . 7 Months and 27 Days!

I think that if you walk home alone or do any after-school activities and such then you should have a phone. I think it's good that you have to have good grades to keep your phone, but maybe all A's is a little harsh...A's and B's would be fair. Just be calm in explaining the situation to your mom and/or dad and step-mom and I'm sure that if you handle it very maturely and show that you've thought it out then they will follow your reasoning. =) Good luck!

Sometimes parents do things that you may find unreasonable for good reasons. They probably don't want you to become spoiled - and you'll thank them when you're older. If it really is for safety reasons, I think you should argue this maturely and maybe get a prepaid cellphone.

You should totally get a cell phone. I would ask your parents what jobs you could do to earn the money and pay for a prepaid cell yourself.
Oh, what you don't want to earn it . . . .
Then be thankful they will give one to you if you are doing your best.
