it's a gas guzzler, so time to scrap it.

Stand near the gas tank and have somebody turn the key off and on, listen for the buzz of the fuel pump. If you hear that OK. Next take off a spark plug wire and stick a screw driver in the end and hold the steel of the driver about a 1/4 away from the motor and have them crank it. If you see the spark, OK. If it's got both gas and spark and it cranks; you're in trouble.

Typical Ford.

A fella was stranded once with his, I wiggled all the relays under the hood there, and it started.

My wife`s car won`t start sometimes, but it will immediately when I turn the heater control to OFF and turn the key ON, but wait a couple of seconds until the Fuel injection system gets up to pressure...

Then it starts!!

Oh, 1996 is the first year for OBD-II. OBD-II is the newer super picky computer system in cars now...

If it is cranking over, there is a pretty good chance that the fuel pump has failed, or that you have a restriction in the fuel filter.
If there is more than 125K on the odometer, check the pump.

You might need plugs and plug wires. Start with a basic tune-up. Next step would be the ignition.
