Some people had a bad experience with a previous marriage and don't want to do it again. Or they saw their parents' bad marriage and want no part of it. Some people are afraid or unwilling to commit. Some people are in committed relationships but don't care about the rings and ceremony. Some people don't want to pay the extra taxes (the "marriage penalty"). I'm sure there are more reasons.

Any number of reasons, some good and some bad. Some people are just afraid of committing or just want to enjoy the benefits of a relationship without the responsibilities. But others may honestly feel that marriage is not right for them. They may know that they're not the type to commit to one partner. They may enjoy leading a life that doesn't fit with settling down. Or they may just feel that marriage isn't something that they need to make them happy in life. Look at it this way: it's a lot better for someone to not want to get married than for someone to get married and then discover that he or she doesn't want to be married.

because:
-lots of marriages end in divorce
- if it doesnt work out he/she will likely get a share of your wealth/assets
-you have to share your money
-you have to only have sex with one person for the rest of your life
- if you marry you have lots of rules you have to live by- some people feel too constrained at the thoughts at the lack of freedom..
- if you marry you have to be able to consider somone else and agree to do things you dont want to do - some people know they cant do that...
- people see that some peoples personalities change when they get married - outgoing people stay in...easygoing people nag...sexy people stop wanting sex...
-marriage puts pressure on a relationship...some relationships cant survive that kind of pressure..
- some people see it as conforming to 'big brother' or that its just a 'piece of paper' and why bother..
- some people see marriage just for children..no kids why do it?
- they are not ready...in themselves for that level of commitment..nothing to do with love for their partner...
-the person they are with they are not convinced in their heart that this is 'the one'
-it can be to do with family/church/society pressure....people are asking you when you are getting married and it puts some people off being under the microscope about it..
I am 34 and single by the way :-)

I didn't want to get married, but I had an ultimatum put to my head after 6 years of loyalty... well now I'm married, and I'm happy, but only because I have help on the side if you know what I mean ; )

Well I can only speak for myself. I have already done it once and my kids are raised. No point in doing it again. But that doesn't mean that a person is not able to commit to someone.
