First of all, why are you eligible for social security benefits? If it is for a physical rather then developmental or mental disability, you have no problem becoming your own payee. Basically, you need to contact your local social security office and request a meeting with them. During that meeting, you'll be able to demonstrate that you are mentally fit to deal with your own social security (i.e., that you are able to budget, pay your bills, remain solvent, etc. . .). Then you just have to sign the papers showing that you want the payee to be yourself or anyone else you choose. Please note that, even if your disability is based on a mental or developmental disability, you may be able to be your own payee if you can demonstrate that you have good common sense, basic understanding of budgeting, and/or you are receiving the assistance of a social work agency who is willing to help.
However, if your mother is your conservator instead of your guardian, you will need to get the help of a social worker (you probably already have a social worker/case worker attached to your case) and/or an attorney to fight the conservatorship and demonstrate that you are mentally able to lead your own life, even if you need assistance from an agency's social worker.
Good luck

If you're 22 and have a guardian, then a court has ruled that you are not competent to be your own payee.
You can petition the court to challenge that ruling, or to have a Guardian ad lignum appointed instead of your mother, but you can't get your payye info changed while you're still under an order of guardianship.

if your mother has filed papers with the court, if she is a Court appointed guardian, you may have to petition the court,.....a lawyer might be able to help you, but it would cost money,.....
