I found out what "company" was doing this and when I contacted them, they didn't apologize for the mix up, or deny it was theft. They offered to repay me but said they could only go back three months. I had heard somewhere the FBI is in charge of electronic theft and identity fraud, is this true?

Your local police first. Give them all the info you have.
Get a copy of the report.
Surely tou have contacted your credit card issuer and canceled the card.
Your State Attorney.
There is an FBI site for "Identity theft".

Be certain that you did not give anyone permission to use the card. That constitutes a false report.

1. The bank.
2. State Attorney General Consumer office.
3. The Secret Service has jurisdiction over electronic theft and identity fraud, but the first two will actually help you get your money back (unless they are in the right).

The FBI will not help you. If you feel you are the victim of fraud and identity theft, you need to contact your local police department and file a police report.

The next thing you need to do is hire a lawyer. If you can't afford one, I know of a service that can help you.

Call the police first...file a report for documentation purposes and then contact your local district attorney for further help.

Yes, you can report it to the FBI if it was "Criminal", and not just a mix-up.

The FIRST people to report it to, though, is your bank! Get that card cancelled!
