I was going to get this pair of jeans on ebay but for some reason.. My paypal was completelyl at zero. Even right after I sold an 800 dollar circuit breaker. I thought the money was there,.. it was when I last looked.. and then it wasnt there when i tried to pay for the item. I tried contacting this person several times and there was no response. I tried letting them know what was going on with my paypal and a few hours later, i get a negative feedback. Should I retaliate by leaving them a negative feedback as well for poor communication?

You can do that. Then if they don't like it you can both mutually withdraw your feedback.

However, a more accurate rating might be 'Nuetral'. Technically, they were within their rights to leave neg feedbakc (although I wouldn't be so harsh) for bidding on an item you didn't have funds for.

Your nuetral rating would go with an explaination that they refused contact and you attempted to make payment arrangements.

Also, consider this. If I see a seller with a neg rating, and their note says it was just retaliation from a non-payer, I wouldn't pay attention to it. But if they had a nuetral, I would read and pay attention to that, because it didn't just look like retaliation.

Good luck to you. I know alot of folks misuse the feedback system on there.

In your contact with the seller, did you offer to pay for the jeans in another way? (with a money order or credit card?)

With paypal, you can add funds to your account using your bank or your credit card....you should have done that when you saw that your paypal balance was gone. I know this isn't the answer you probably want to hear, and I'm sorry, but on Ebay...your bid is a contract, and you broke the contract by not paying.

I would not leave negative feedback on the seller's account, because they are not in the wrong. They were not obligated to contact you...they had no issue. I might leave some "neutral" feedback (it's neither positive nor negative) and mention the non-communication.
