the reason i love the harry potter series is because JK's books take to different places and her descriptions are so vivid that you actually can imagine being there. ;)

A Spell for Chameleon, the first book of the Xanth series by Piers Anthony. A lighthearted and fun fantasy, vert imaginative and absorbing. It will be made into a movie next year.

But you didn't write "why" HP is your favorite-- what's fair is fair, right?
Just kidding.

Right now my favorite book is "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, because though it's a rather slim book it packs a powerful punch, especially because it's told cattywumpus (sp), since there is indeed "a death foretold." Marquez is just a great writer, that's all.

But my favorites change a lot. Last night I was all for "Stickeen" by John Muir, another little book, but 'wild,' because it goes into the wilderness of Nature at her wildest, on a hike with Muir and a little dog who followed him, though he strongly advised it not to. A fantastic and true book. (Muir was forever taking hikes in the worst weather imaginable--)

More tomorrow or so...

"The Stoneholding" by Mark James. The storyline is great. My favorite thing about it is the writing. It is absolutely beautiful. The command of language and the use of just the right word, perfect.

the restaurant at the end of the universe by douglas adams. As much because I love Adam's story telling and as much for this book having my philosophy of life and my feelings about God in it.
