Check brake fluid level

2007-12-06 12:07:15 · answer #1 · answered by Rick G 4 · 1 0

The light that is for the hand brake also is the light for a malfunction in the rest of the brake system. Open the hood and check the brake reservoir. It will be on the drivers side attached to the firewall. Take the cover off and look at the fluid. There should be two chambers. The front one is for the back brakes and the rear chamber is for the front brakes. If either of them are low, you need to get it to a mechanic ASAP! You have a leak in the system and you have to get it fixed before you are involved in an accident!

One thing is to make sure it's the hand brake light and not the "brake warning" light. Some cars use it for both. If it is the hand brake light, it could be that the cable needs adjusted, or the swich that turns the light on is stuck or needs udjusted. It's not a dificult or expensive job.

attempt pulling or shifting the handbrake lever to determine if the mild will pass out. there's a change that senses the placement of the brake lever and it the two desires adjustment or alternative.

It depends on what kid of car it is, but most cars have a parking light switch, that sits underneath the hand brake lever, or the foot brake lever. Eventually, these switches no longer read the operation you are performing, and needs to be changed out.Sometimes, though, it could mean you have a taillight out.

Drive a 100mph and then pull the handbreak......then quickly release it. I don't know if it will fix it, but sure is a wild ride.
