One of the interesting things about Houston (I say interesting because the jury is out on whether it is good or bad) is its lack of zoning. As a result, the city has a very "block by block" character to it.

The very best way, if you can't come for a visit, is to use some of the resources provided by the Houston Association of Realtors (www.har.com) or the Greater Houston Partnership (www.houston.org). Also, the city is a dynamic one. Areas that were a little bit scary 5 years ago are now very fashionable.

You might also consider asking by major intersection or by neighborhood to get some better ideas.

Good luck. Houston is a great city.

Unfortunately, with Houston and surrounding areas, you really can't tell how a place will be by zip code. You can easily find shady places right next to safe "family" neighborhoods within the same zip code. You have to check out the areas the homes are in that you're considering purchasing.

77008, 77009, 77007 are all good. they are all in the Heights.

you can look up cencus data on www.zipskinny.com HOWEVER, the info is from 2000 and this area has literally exploded with new million dollar homes in the last 7 years.

77005 is west u. very good area. 77019 is river oaks, the most prestigious and expensive area in houston but it does have some more affordable housing (houses in the 200-300k range) on the outskirts of the zip.

I'm quite fond of 77092.
Everything is near to us.
Forest West is nice & quiet.
Briar Forest, Oak Forest,
Oak Gardens, these are all really nice.

I would get with a real estate agent, let him/her know your preference and what you are looking for. This is a great resource!

Good luck!

77068, 77019 are very good. Parts of 77006 is good as well. But just remember that no matter where you live, be aware of your surroundings.

It is so many zipcodes it all depends on what side you want to stay and how much you are willing to pay.
