He is serving one year and is not talking about it much. I get worried? Not that he didn't deserve it though, but I still worry.

PS: Please don't drink & drive (or pass out at the wheel while parked on the side of the road, it counts as the same thing)

Happy Holidays!

I asked my husband cause I'm like you. I have no clue what goes on in there. He said it was horrible but still better than prison. It depends on what state and county. If it's a large county it's worse. He was in a small county jail for DUI. He doesn't talk much about it but from what he says there are alot of card games, dominoes, drugs, and gangs. They couldn't smoke in jail here either. That's all I got out of him.

The process for going into the jail is strait forward.

First the officer brings the person in and the paperwork is processed. A nurse will ask a number of health related questions of the suspect.

The property and clothing are taken off the suspect and he/she is issued a rule book. After that they are taken to another room to change out and be put into jail clothing. Then they are given a meal and placed into general population holding until the transport gets enough people to move them to a remote facility.

After that I can't say much because I only see the first part of things. Hope that helps.

If he was sentenced to a drug rehab. program, that's probably where he went. Other options may include the hospital if he needed specific medical care, a court outside of the area for some reason, etc. I would contact the facility warden or another lesser supervisor and explain that you're simply concerned about his well being, as would be expected from a spouse, and you would like to be told where he may be so that you know he's safe.

That is sad -- sooooo many people drink and drive and no, I don't condone it at all. I drink and NEVER DRIVE when I drink. Therefore, it hasn't happened to me -- thank goodness. Jail sucks (I know this from my drug addict son) ---- think abou it -- there is NO privacy to even go to the bathroom --- it sucks bad but if he did that (and YOU AGREE) -- he could have killed someone between the drinking and passing out part on the side of the road. Honestly though, I feel really bad that you are going through this.

1 year in jail isn't as tough as over a year in prison. Prison is way tougher and more strict. But jail ain't a picnic either. He's probably not talking about it because he feels ashamed that he's in there and he doesn't want anybody like close friends to really know what goes on in there or that he's even in there in the first plac.e it's like he is keeping to himself from talking about it. After he gets out he still won't talk about it.

whoever said be thankful hes in county and not prison obviously hasnt been to either. most county jails are extremely poorly funded, dirty, and more violent. prisons are more structured and stricter regulated. ive had a few DUI's myself and youre right, its not much fun. the jail i was in was terrible. there were roaches and spiders, the only thing to look forward to were meal times (which was disgusting anyway), visits (which were through glass), and canteen run (where you get soda and candy bars like once a week). sucks he's locked up. maybe he will straighten up. get him into a rehab when he gets out. saved my life.

If he was in county jail here, he would go nuts! They serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch EVERY DAY! I hear the breakfast is cold cereal or lumpy oatmeal and dinners are usually cold meat sandwiches. Of course, they are there because they did something wrong, so it shouldn't be too easy on them.

I personally dont know...but a few years ago my hubby got arrested for speeding and was only there about 12 hours and he doesnt talk about it much. Well not really at all. Talking to my mother in law she says its probably a lot of things why they are quiet. One they are probably embarrassed about being there....They did something stupid and now realize it. They might have been cavity(or whatever it s called) searched....and who likes that....=0( Even though guys dont realize it he might be jealous...that your out here and he's in there. Good luck. I hope the year goes by quick for you both.

I was only there for 3 hours, it wasn't so bad, but I never made it past the first holding area... Thank god for dad and bail money! I was locked in a room with this girl that wouldn't shut up, she thought she was a little bad @ss or something, I couldn't have gotten out of there quick enough!

Depends on the location...in some places prisons are better then the county jails.....No freedom, having to wear certian clothes, not allowed to have physical contact with your loved ones, crappy food....it sucks...write him as much as possible, accept his phone calls and go visit him as much as you can. It helps alot to people who are in jail.
