Can you drop off paid mail without standing in line at the post office?
Anyone who work at the post office answer this please. Because I recently went to a post office in NYC, 3 out 4 employees told me to wait in line. I had a 6 pound prepaid package. I wasted 20 minutes of my lunch hour for them to just "take" my package. I have used 15 diff post office sin the past and never had to wait in line for prepaid media mail package. I can not find their policy at usps.gov about this. Asked them for supervisor, they said there are no supervisor. This post office is in Macy's, and Macy's has a great reputation for custoemr service. What a shame

Many post offices now have self serfvice facilities. They have a scale, and sell postage.
You can put your package on a scale, weigh it, and punch in some options. You buy the postage, stick it on the package, open the slot and off you go.
Real easy to operate, and it saves time.
Small packages only, but if it fits thru the slot, it saves a lot of time.
Another options. Nearby Kinkos??? They deal with fedEx.

post 9/11 all packages over a pretty small size, much less then yours, must be handled individually.

it sucks, but that is life.

I am sure there were signs all over to this extent, including on the mailboxes there you otherwise would have been able to put it in in the past.

Now you know, so your time will be scheduled properly form now on.

If it's small enough you can drop it in the box that should be outside the post office or in one of several mailboxes that should be around the city.

Just wait your turn, you're not special.
