In the tank:
1 pleco
2 dwarf gouramis
1 angelfish
1 freshwater puffer (now infected)
1 peacock eel
2 mollies (1 is now infected)

I have lost 3 fish in the past to a white fungus that looks like cotton balls, and now more of my fish are infected. Last time this happened I bought fugus treatment for the tank that my friend at the pet store reccommended. It didnt seem to work last time, and when the fish died, I sterilized the tank then set it up again. Last night I lost one of my peacock eels (overnight he had got the fungus) and now 2 other fish are infected. I have treated the tank (again).

What should I do? any ideas?
anyone have the same problem???

This might not be a fungus, but Columnaris, a bacterial infection. It does look similar to a fungus, though. You can generally tell them apart because the fungal infection has long, straight filaments that you should be able to distinguish easily, and an irregular outline ot the infection. Columnaris tends to have shorter filaments that are matted down, and the outline is almost circular: http://www.fishjunkies.com/images/Columnaris2.jpg

If you think this fits Columnaris, treat with a good antibiotic, such as Furanace.

For a true "fungus" to attack a fish, it would need to be already weakened/stressed by other factors, such as improper temperature, or poor water quality. It rarely attacks a healthy fish in good conditions.

it's probably not a fungus but a protozoan commonly referred to as ICK, get some potassium permanganate! WARNING: POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE WILL KILL ALL INVERTEBRATES. If you have any snails, crawfish, crabs they will be goners. You might want to put new bacteria back in your tank after you do this since it will wipe out your biological filter. You can buy products that have new bacteria in them or get some dirty filter water from a healthy tank to replenish your good bacteria.
