My son is now 7 weeks old. He is sharing the bed with me which I don't mind (I did this with my daughter until 6 months). Anyway, my son has difficulty sleeping. He grunts all night like he has to poop and cries out if I'm not patting his back or trying to comfort him. I give him a gripe water that takes away the gas he has but he still seems to want to poop all night...or something I'm not sure what is going on! As soon I get us out of bed in the morning (at this point I've been up with him several times at night trying to get him to sleep so that I can too) up he's bright and bushy tailed and then poops. I Breastfeed him and have eliminated EVERYTHING that could irritate him so what is going on? I would like to get him on a schedule but he's so sporadic. Any suggestion or do you share the same weird experience?

Is he lying flat? If you feed him right before bed, then he could be having some reflux problems that make him extremely uncomfortable. I would try propping him up. If all else fails, try sleeping with him as long as you can and then put him in a swing for a little bit. The movement will help and then you can get at least a little sleep. Just try not to make a habit of it. Sometimes swing sleeping can be just as hard of a habit to break as a pacifier. Good luck!

Sounds like you might just have a fussy little baby. My daughter was like that until she was about 2.5 months old. She was such a horrible sleeper at night and would fuss. I don't think she had colic, but she would not sleep unless someone was touching her or holding her then all of a sudden she just stopped needing constant stimulation. Which was great b/c I thought I was going to lose my mind. Some babies just need more attention than others.

I went through the same thing with my daughter. First, she was lactose-intolerant so I put her on Enfamil w/ Lipil, no lactose, then she still didn't sleep because she can't get comfy for some reason. My daughter sleeps in the weirdest positions! She was the happiest baby though during the day but she drove me nuts at night. Honestly, she's almost 2 and she still don't sleep right! I look like a zombie everyday. If you are breastfeeding, avoid spicy foods, gassy foods, and really artificial-like foods with dyes and things like that in them. Your baby eats what you eat.

Sounds like Collic really bad. My daughter had a severe case of Collic up until she was 6 months old.

Give your son some gas drops and rock him back and fourth with some calming music on. Try also when you are breast feeding him.

If he has to poop, bring his legs up to his chest repeatedly.

My daughter fell asleep by watching our ceiling fan go around and around.

Swaddeling helps out ALOT as well! They love to be close.

Good luck hun!

i had a problem simular with my daughter, who was also breastfeed. She wanted to nurse every 30 min to 1 hour. even if only for a min or two. The doctor said i was giving her "thanksgiving belly" and she was uncomfortable. I stopped feeding her except for every 2 to 21/2 hours and this problem went away. She cried for the first day or so,and would'nt take a pacifer, but after she evened out, everything was beautiful. I went on to have three more children, who i breastfed for over a year for each child. I am now a grandmothe and have seen this happen to my daughters with their children.Good luck, nothing hurts more than to think your baby is in pain.

At 7 weeks he probably won't sleep through the night yet. More like 3 months or more at least. Have your doctor check him out to be sure there is nothing physically wrong. But it just might be colic. Boys are more prone to it than girls.
