Very little that is positive comes out of the UN because it is led by people like Kofi Annan who can only stay in power if they are supported by certain groups. Hence, he will not help certain groups or countries because his job will be in jeopardy if he opposes the wrong people.

In the UN it's all a matter of self-interest.

Imagine you are some diplomat from some armpit country. A post at the UN means you get to live like a king. You are part of fancy balls, parties, receptions, banquets, and all manner of social events you would never otherwise experience.

If you are a reporter, you dare not tell the truth about what goes on there because you will lose this "plum" assignment. It is every reporter's dream. Reporters are given very good treatment, and they also get to participate in many exciting social events. Are you going to endanger the best job you can imagine just to tell the truth about something the public may not care about, nor even bother to read?

The UN is a joke. France, German, and Russia all authored the seventeen stern resolutions against Saddam Hussein, yet would not ultimately endorse the military intervention these resolutions warned of. Why? Because the Security Council members were being bribed by Saddam via the "Food For Oil" scandal.

The UN is sometimes unimaginably corrupt and loony. Countries that are international pariahs get a seat on the Security Council.

Even countries you would expect get a lot of benefit from the UN, such as Israel, complain about it. (see website below)

The UN was supposed to be a way to make nations live peaceably with one another. They certainly have not lived up to that mandate.

They are good at passing resolutions, stealing money and waiting until the United States enforces the resolutions they pass.
