I am straight and married...I love everyone...no matter what sexual orientation they are. But I have always wanted to know...why are men gay and women lesbians. What makes you decide who to be with? What in that person are you attracted to??? i don't want to sound ignorant, but If I want to know...why not ask the Experts, right??
and if you're going to say something mean about gays or lesbians...please dont comment...I dont want to start a war

We are born as such. We don't decide to become gay. My earliest crush was on a girl, and so have the rest since then. I never felt as though I made a choice to become a lesbian. I'm simply attracted to women.
I've fallen in love with people based on...oh, I don't know how to answer that. My girlfriend is beautiful, kind, witty, incredible intelligent, that's why I fell in love with her. It was no more a conscious decision that than being gay was. Gay people are the same as straight people in the sense that we fall in love with an individual person, not the act of sex.
Some people are going to give you a hard time for asking this. I applaud you for asking us directly instead of making up assumptions that would most likely be inaccurate.

I think I can speak for a great deal of gay people in saying that we can't really say what it is that makes us gay. Its as completely natural to us as being straight is to you. I've always admired men... since I was 5 years old. Granted at that age you don't grasp the concept of sexuality, but you can definitely know when a person you are looking at looks good to you. So I guess I can pretty confidently say that I've always been gay as long as I can remember. When I hit puberty I knew that it was men that I found sexually attractive.
Think of it this way... why do you find the women that you find attractive, attractive? Most likely you can't really come up with a good answer to that. Whether it be blonde hair or a nice A** those things are just hard wired in you and thats what you like. In my case, a bald head and a goatee on an african american man is what does it for me. Thats just how it is... always has been... and most likely always will.

I have no idea why I'm gay, I just am. When I was a child I was sexually attracted to other boys and men before I knew what sexuality was.
At 11 I had my first of a wonderful summer with another 11 year old boy on my baseball team. After that, I had sex with some older teenagers which was a lot of fun and made me feel great.
At 13 I found out that when people were saying horrible things about queers, they were talking about people like me.
I found out that the people I loved in my family hated queers so I tried very hard to be straight. It was a disaster.
I think you have a lovely forehead by the way.

There are many theories as to why homosexuals are homosexuals, but so far not very many proofs. What is a fact is that it is not a choice, it is something you are born with such as left handed right handed, boy or girl, straight or gay. As for who you are attracted to, it is the same as any relationship. Their humour, personality, etc. whatever attracts you is what makes you attracted to that person, orientation, man or woman, has nothing to do with it, different people are attracted to different things. :) spread that word, if you eliminate ignorance and fear you eliminate prejudice!

I feel that there are very few people that are 100% straight or 100% gay. Most people are somewhere in the middle, leaning a little more one way or the other.... I personally was married (to a man) for 5 years and now I am in a wonderful relationship (for the past 2 years) with a woman. I am much happier now than I ever was before, but I can still apreciate a sexy man as well as a sexy woman. It's just how you are born and how you are, everybody is different.

Thank you for being so inquisitive. If only most people were like you - then we would never have any discrimination! Anyway, gay people are, of course, born that way. It would be silly to choose to become a member of a discriminated (and sometimes even hated) minority.
Another thing you should know is that the lives of gay people do not revolve around sex. We spend as much time for sex as heterosexuals - less that 1 percent of the lifetime. For most gays, homosexuality is not the most important part of their personality.

Scientific researchers who specialize in human sexuality have shown that homosexuality is linked to biology and genetics.
An October 2004 scientific research publication stated that scientists have found that women tend to have more children when they inherit the same genetic factors linked to homosexuality in men & that this fertility boost more than compensates for the lack of offspring fathered by gay men and keeps the “gay” genetic factors in circulation; a 2005 study reported genetic scans showing a clustering of the same genetic pattern among gay men on three chromosomes; a study published in Human Genetics in February 2006 found extreme differences in X chromosome inactivation in mothers of gay sons and mothers whose sons were not gay; and another 2006 scientific study found that a man's likelihood of being gay rises with the number of older biological brothers even if gay men were raised away from their biological families.

Hi there. most gays think its in the genes. a few of us don't agree.
of the many factors that contr to being gay, the clearest (most proven) ones involve family problems - distant father, to close mother, alienation from brothers and friends. these are the most common reasons.
basically it's all about rejection: kids feel rejected by same sex parents, friends at school and society at large. to get that all-important connection with fathers and male friends; boys will try anything - even sex. ditto for girls and mothers.
the mother-daughter; father-son relationships are among the most important we can ever have, and these are in trouble in our times
so while it's very complex and the controversies are mind-scribbling, we can come to terms with it all
adding:
Masters and Johnson: “The genetic theory of homosexuality has been generally discarded today.” after reviewing the studies. (1985) *
Cohen, Boellstorff: "Despite findings that remain inconclusive, contested and sometimes irreproducible, the biology of human sexual variation has gradually become respectable." Review in Scientific American. ** by Boellstorff and Cohen (1997) Scientific American , commenting on LeVay and Mondimore’s books.
Hamer: "In other words, some people were gay partly because of their genes and some were gay for other reasons." (Page 107).***

The precise reson is... to tell the truth... (drumroll please!)...
Unknown.
It is said by some researchers that it is more of a genetic trait, like a person having blue eyes, or a person being white, or a person having blonde or brown hair.
But the main thing is, is that the exact reason for people being gay/straight/bisexual or whatever is unclear or just unknown.
